She Believed She Could

Style

Whether you’re 5, 25, 55, male or female, you’ve undoubtedly experienced the little voice that gets inside your head and tells you that you can’t do something. It creeps in when you least expect or when you’re not feeling as confident as you should, maybe you’re nervous, or feeling insecure.

I hate that little voice. I hate how it slowly creeps in. As kids we’ve got our parents, teachers, and coaches, helping us overcome that little voice, learning to believe in ourselves and our abilities. But what happens as we get older? Our parents, friends, or partners may not be there (or may not know) that a little extra cheering-on is needing. So what do we do?

For me, when I’m feeling nervous about a big meeting or unsure that I can do something, I know I need to dig deep and believe that I can do it.

  1. Clear my head. No matter where you are physically, you can always take a few deep breaths and re-centering yourself to clear your head of that little voice. I like to follow this up with some positive affirmations or empowering thoughts.
  2. Stand in mountain pose. If I’m able to escape and get a few minutes to myself, I will stand in mountain pose, which reminds me of the powerful and valuable woman that I am. It gives me that little boost I need!
  3. Wear jewelry as a positive reminder. If I know that I will be having a big presentation at work I will incorporate something into my outfit that reminds me I can do this. It might sound weird, but it works! Bracelets with positive affirmations or maybe the right hand ring you bought yourself after the big promotion, can go a long way with building your confidence.
