In the summer, I pretty much live for holiday weekends. Short work weeks and long weekends make for a happy Kate! With this year’s 4th of July holiday falling on a Friday, it was the perfect time for Jon and me to make our escape! We made last minute plans and stayed at a quaint little studio we found through Airbnb in beautiful La Conner, Washington. We visited nearby Anacortes and took these photos on Washington Park Loop Road.
Summer in Washington never truly starts until July 5th. It’s pretty much a guarantee that we will get rain at some point on the 4th of July and it stayed true for us this year. We had a beautiful day exploring the cities of La Conner & Anacortes with the sun shining down on us, but around dinner time, the clouds rolled in and it started raining! Luckily, it cleared up a little bit later in the evening, just in time for the fireworks!
I’m pretty much the worst packer on the planet and no matter how hard I try to pack lightly, it’s the ultimate fail. I ended up packing layers, which saved me when it came to the rain, but somehow I also packed two of the exact same jeans – my favorite KUT from the Kloth crops for summer – and I have no idea why. But for once my overpacking saved me! We walked so much the first day that I wore a hole through the thigh of my pants! I’ve had these jeans for about two years now and basically live in them every summer. They’ve seen a lot of wear and tear and I’m sad to have to retire this pair! (Don’t worry, I’ve already picked up a replacement pair!)
